Update On COVID-19 As Of January 8: Another New Record, Now 10,617 New Cases

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) releases the latest additional positive cases of COVID-19 today. A total of 66,619 specimens were examined with the results that there were 10,617 new positive cases of COVID-19.

The addition of new positive cases of COVID-19 has set a record for new positive cases. Previously, the highest new cases per day occurred yesterday, namely January 7 with 9,321 cases.

"The total accumulation of positive cases since COVID-19 was discovered in Indonesia has reached 808,340 people," the Ministry of Health was quoted as saying, Friday, January 8.

Today's cases increased by 7,446 so that a total of 666,883 people recovered. Then, the positive confirmed cases who died increased by 233 people and a total of 23,753 people.

The province with the most new cases is in DKI Jakarta with 2,959 new cases and a total of 200,658 cases. DKI is the province with the most cases in Indonesia.

Followed by West Java, which has 1,824 new cases with a total of 94,371 cases. Central Java has 1,071 new cases and a total of 89,637 cases. Then, East Java has 1,025 new cases and a total of 90,615 cases.

The province with the most cases recovered today belongs to DKI Jakarta with an increase of 2,681 recovered cases. Followed by West Java with an increase of 914 recovered cases, Central Java with an increase of 859 recovered cases, and East Java with an increase of 742 recovered cases.

Then, there is one province that reported no new cases today. The province that reported zero new cases was Maluku.

In addition, the number of specimens examined reached 7,779,926. In detail, 7,649,026 specimens were examined using real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and 130,900 using molecular rapid tests (TCM).

Finally, the number of people suspected of having contracted COVID-19 or who are currently categorized as suspected cases, was recorded at 69,121 people. Currently, 510 districts / cities from 34 provinces have cases of COVID-19.
