Smoke Out Passengers' Cellphone, Lion Air Air Air In Kupang Is Airported

JAKARTA - Lion Air aircraft belonging to Lion Air airline on the Kupang-Surabaya route canceled its flight due to the plane's emergency door being opened by passengers when it was about to take off from El Tari Kupang airport, Sunday morning.

"That's right, the Lion Air plane with flight number JT 697 canceled its flight due to the opening of the emergency exit door," said Public Relations of El Tari Kupang Airport, Devi Budihandayani, quoted from Antara, Sunday, February 26.

After the flight was canceled, the passengers from the plane were immediately asked to get all off the plane, causing the passengers to panic.

Devi explained that after an investigation was carried out by the airline, it was discovered that the emergency door was opened by a passenger because the device belonging to one of the passengers on the plane emitted smoke when the plane was about to take off.

"His cellphone emitted smoke when he kept it in his pocket," he said.

Devi explained that because of panic, the device emitted smoke, the passenger then threw his device on the floor of the cabin hallway so that it immediately triggered a smoke detection alarm.

"Hearing the alarm sounded spontaneously one of the passengers opening the emergency door," he said.

Currently, passengers whose devices emit smoke are still waiting for information on departures from the airline.

The passengers of the plane are also currently in the waiting room waiting for further information. Meanwhile, he said the plane was in normal condition and was waiting for clearance from engineering.
