Cases Continue To Rise, Papua Provincial Government Builds A Center For Drug Rehabilitation

MANOKWARI - The West Papua Provincial Government is preparing a rehabilitation unit for drug addicts in the region.

Director of West Papua Regional Hospital, Dr. Arnoldus Tiniap, in Manokwari, said the rehabilitation unit would later join the psychiatric ward at the provincial hospital.

Some time ago a team from the West Papua Health Service, the West Papua National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the West Papua High Prosecutor's Office, and the West Papua Hospital conducted an appeal study to Surabaya, East Java.

"This year we have to open it," said Arnoldus.

Before operating, he said, first there was training to treat patients with narcotics addicts.

Medical personnel who provide rehabilitation services come from provincial hospitals and West Papua BNN.

Head of West Papaua BNN Brigadier General Pol Heri Istu Hariono said the rehabilitation unit would facilitate the process of handling drug addicts because so far BNN has experienced difficulties.

The comparative study at the hospital in Surabaya aims to study the pattern of medical and social rehabilitation for psychiatric patients and drug addicts.

"There are 12 steps to treat patients," he said.

His party continues to coordinate with the management of the West Papua Regional Hospital so that the plan runs according to expectations.

This is because many drug addicts from West Papua have to be sent to the Baddoka BNN Rehabilitation Center, Makassar, South Sulawesi to get rehabilitation services.

"If we send it outside, we have to prepare a lot of costs, so we hope there will be unit rehabilitation as soon as possible," said Brigadier General Heri.
