Students And Indigenous Papuans Demo In Front Of The AGO's Office, Ask For Corruption Suspects For The Procurement Of Detained Helicopters

JAKARTA - Students and Indigenous Papuans (Oap) Anti-Corruption Sejabodetabek and the Mimika Care Forum Alliance, again held a demonstration in front of the gate of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) building, South Jakarta.

The demonstration was related to the corruption case in the procurement and operation of helicopters and aircraft in Mimika Regency.

The coordinator of the action, Michael Himan said, the Head of the Indonesian Attorney General's Office, the Papua Attorney General's Office and the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian really seriously paid attention to and carried out all statements of the protesters' attitudes.

"We demand to immediately arrest, arrest and stop Johannes Rettob from the position of Acting Regent of Mimika and the legal process of Johannes Rettob." Michael Himan said in a written statement received on Friday, February 24.

Michael Himan explained that on January 25, 2023, the Papua High Prosecutor's Office had named Johannes Rettob of the Mimika Regent and his brother-in-law, Silvi Heraway, as suspects for state losses of Rp43 billion.

"However, until now the suspects have not been arrested and detained for legal proceedings. Even though Article 21 of the Criminal Code clearly confirms that the suspect with a penalty of more than 5 years must be detained." said Himan.

"Miris and inversely proportional to officials of Papuan Indigenous People who have been designated as suspects are immediately hunted down to be arrested and detained by law enforcement officers. Do suspected non-Papuan officials really have to be protected and allowed to maneuver freely here and there to get legal protection? Is this law that applies in Indonesia owned by non-Papuan officials?" regret Michael Himan.

"We still believe that the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia and its staff of the Papua High Prosecutor's Office are still upright in maintaining the dignity of law enforcement institutions indiscriminately upholding the truth and justice for the upholding of the law in the Republic of Indonesia." he added.

Himan again asked the Attorney General's Office, especially the Papua High Prosecutor's Office, to detain the suspects in the case.

"For this reason, in order to maintain the trust of the people, especially the people in Papuan land, please the Attorney General's Office, especially the Papua High Prosecutor's Office, immediately arrest, arrest and legal process Mr. Johannes Rettob Plt. Mimika Regent and Sdri. Silvi Heraway is a suspect in corruption in the procurement and commissioning of helicopters and planes." Michael Himan said.
