Trash Reaches 2,000 Tons/Day In Medan, Bobby Nasution Asks Residents Not To Throw It Into The River

MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution asked for the support of all levels of society to deal with the waste that Medan City, North Sumatra produces around 2,000 tons/day.

"Support can be given to the community by sorting waste before disposing of it," he said while observing the mass mutual cooperation at Sungai Putih, Medan, North Sumatra, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 22.

This means, said Bobby in the commemoration of the 2023 National Waste Care Day (HPSN) at the Medan City level, people can sort wet, dry, organic, and non-organic waste before disposing of it in its place.

In addition, the Medan City Government is also continuing to develop a final disposal site (TPA), so that it can accommodate all the waste in the capital city of North Sumatra Province.

"This step is certainly very helpful for the Medan City Government in handling the waste," he said.

The Mayor admitted that the Medan City Government through the related OPD had developed waste management at the Falls TPA so far using the "open dumping" method to become a "sanitary landfill".

Bobby also revealed that a number of parties had offered cooperation in waste management in the capital city of North Sumatra Province.

"Finally, the Dutch Ambassador H.E. Lambert Grijns, because there are several cities in the Netherlands who want to cooperate with the Medan City Government in managing TPA," he explained.

The Mayor again asked all the people of Medan City to dispose of trash in its place, because until now not a few are still littering.

"The White River, which is the location for this mass mutual cooperation, is an example. These days the river behind me is the biggest garbage dump in this area," said Bobby.

It's as if the river has become a landfill area. Even though the White River has been cleaned many times, trash is still being dumped into this river.

"Therefore, we have to increase public awareness not to throw garbage into the river, so they dispose of garbage in its place," said the Mayor of Medan.
