DPR Optimistic TNI Polri Can Free Pilot Philip Mark From KKB In Papua

JAKARTA - The people's House of Representatives (DPR) trusts the government through the TNI Polri operation in an effort to rescue Susi Air pilot Philip Mark from the armed criminal group (KKB) in Papua.

Member of Commission I of the Indonesian Parliament Christina Aryani is optimistic that the TNI and Polri will be able to free the Susi Air pilot who has been held hostage by the KKB group in Papua.

She believed that the Indonesian National Police had a good and measurable strategy so that the persuasive approach was successful without any casualties.

"We provide moral support to the TNI in the field, who together with the National Police are working on the release of the Susi Air pilot. Of course, we are optimistic that armed with experience and training so far, the task of freeing can be completed properly in time," said Christina in a written statement received Friday, 17 February.

Christina added that the steps taken by the government and also the TNI Commander to put forward a persuasive approach in handling hostages in the field were very appropriate.

"The key is indeed persuasive. Don't fall victim to it which only creates negative effects and impacts on the solution to the Papuan problem," Christina added.

Regarding the video of the KKB group circulating widely with the Susi Air pilot who was taken hostage, Christina said there was no need to provoke an exaggerated response.

"There is no need to build narratives or exaggerated reactions. I am very confident that the TNI will be able to manage the situation well. We both hope that the operation to free the Susi Air Pilot will be successful," concluded Christina.
