Ahead Of The 2024 Election, DPR Asks All Levels Of Society To Avoid Sensitive Issues

JAKARTA - The People's Representative Council (DPR) invites the public, officials, politicians, and members of the press to maintain conditions ahead of the 2024 General Elections in a peaceful manner. Especially avoiding sensitive issues namely ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup (SARA).

This was explained by DPR Member Johan Rosihan in the Dialectics of Democracy event with the theme 'Safari Elite Politics and Peaceful Messages for the 2024 Election' at the Media Center, Nusantara III Building, DPR RI, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday 16 February.

Johan invited all components of society, both politicians and members of the press, to avoid using SARA issues in the 2024 Election.

According to him, the issue is no longer relevant. Because of that, he asked to focus on carrying out constitutional duties in protecting all the people and the homeland of Indonesia.

"I emphasized at the outset that the election process or dynamics must not undermine the unity of our Indonesia," said Johan

He continued, he also said that the main discussion in Indonesian society at the moment is about economic welfare, namely related to basic food materials, fertilizers, level of education, and health.

He also considered that discussions related to SARA issues were better stopped, because it was a gift from God (given).

He asked how to think together from all stakeholders of this nation. For political parties, DPR, press, observers, how can we jointly think about protecting all the people and the homeland of Indonesia.

"So that we remain proud as Indonesians, so that later we are comfortable working in Indonesia, not then we feel as foreigners in our country," he explained.

The politician from the Prosperous Justice Party faction thinks that it is better now to refocus on constitutional tasks, especially how to protect all the people and the homeland of Indonesia.

Then how about educating the nation's life, participating in international forums, telling about great Indonesia, and marketing our products so that we can be competitive. This is so that Indonesia has a high bargaining power in front of other nations.

“I think that (should) be our concentration. So if later people want to play on that issue, I say it's already not selling. Let's then take up important issues because our duty as children of this nation is how, once again, our constitutional duty, just go back there," he concluded.
