JAKARTA - Demonstrations demand that the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers be passed or (RUU PPRT) takes place in front of the DPR building, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 15.

In their protest, domestic workers (PRT) unfurled a 15x15 meter cloth in front of the DPR building.

"This is a collection of troops from all over the PRT and we are sewing. This is a form of our statement against PRT solidarity in various areas that are still oppressed," said PRT National Network Coordinator, Lita Anggraini when met at the location, Wednesday, February 15, was confiscated by Antara.

According to Lita, many domestic workers in the region receive inappropriate treatment while working from acts of discrimination, intimidation, to not getting a salary.

This happened because until now there has not been a law that becomes the legal umbrella for domestic workers to avoid injustice.

Therefore, Lita said that her party hopes that this demonstration can knock on the hearts of DPR members to discuss the PPRT Bill. It was recorded that 200 PRT members who were members of various organizations attended today's action in front of the DPR.

Until now, the demonstrators began to leave the demonstration site after taking action since 10:00 WIB.

To note, the PPRT Bill has been proposed since 2004. This bill itself was only included in the discussion stage of the bill in 2010. Later, President Joko Widodo asked that the PRT Bill be a priority that must be discussed in 2023.

This is done to reduce the number of violence against domestic workers that often occurs in Indonesia.
