5 Foreign Ship Thieves Fish Drowned In Waters Of Kepri

TANJUNGPINANG - The Riau Islands High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) sank five foreign fishing boats which were confiscated by officers for fishing illegally in marine waters.

The five fishing boats include four Vietnamese-flagged vessels and one Malaysian-flagged vessel. The destruction of the ship was carried out by drowning in the waters of Abang Island, Batam City.

"The sinking of ships still pays attention to the preservation of the marine environment, so we do not use bombs. But they leak the hull of the ship so that it sinks slowly, so as not to disturb the ecosystem and marine life," said Kajati Kepri Hari Setiyono as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 29.

Hari explained that the sunken fishing boat was an implementation of the judge's decision who had obtained permanent legal force in a criminal case on behalf of the convicted convicts Ngo Van Dung, Nguyen Van Quyen, Yelwin OO, Le Thanh Sanga and Nguyen Huu Phuoc.

Kajati appreciated the good cooperation from related agencies, especially the Batam Pangkalan Directorate General of PSDKP, who supported the prosecutor's duties to always be the executor so that the execution of the destruction of four Vietnamese ships and one Malaysian ship went smoothly.

"This extermination aims to provide a deterrent effect on foreign fishing vessels (KIA) that loot Indonesian marine resources, particularly the Riau Islands," said Hari.
