MALUKU - The Ambon City Government (Pemkot) is reviewing the application of sanctions for residents who litter throughout the Ambon City area. The sanctions will later be contained in regional regulations.

"A study of the application of sanctions is made of regulations governing witnesses or fines for residents who litter, such as in rivers, roadsides or locations that are not temporary garbage disposal sites," said Ambon Mayor's Acting (Pj) Bodew Wattimena in Ambon, Tuesday, January 17, confiscated by Antara.

He said sanctions for residents of random waste disposal who were being discussed would impose the perpetrators of warning sanctions to the application of fines of up to Rp. 1 million.

"We hope that by making regulations that regulate the form of sanctions, it will have a deterrent effect, so that people throw garbage in the prepared places," he said.

Garbage, said Bodewin, is a major problem in Ambon City. One of the obstacles in handling waste is the limited fleet of garbage carriers.

"We are trying to get an additional three units of garbage transport vehicles in 2023, supported by various policies to overcome waste problems," he said.

He stated that his party was trying to improve all connected support devices in the control center of Ambon City Hall.

Currently, only 32 monitoring cameras or CCTV have been installed in Ambon City which are connected to the control center room at City Hall, it is hoped that there will be additional monitoring equipment spread over a number of points in Ambon City.

"At the control center, not only is community activities monitored, such as disposing of garbage, traffic activities, but also tax payments in cafes and restaurants," he said.
