The British Ambassador Will Visit Semarang and Solo to Discuss Cooperation in Transportation and Education

SEMARANG - The British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Owen Jenkins will visit Semarang and Solo to deepen bilateral relations in various fields, starting from the development of sustainable transportation, education, English, and health.

British Embassy Spokesperson Faye Belnis said Owen's scheduled visit was to meet with the Regional Secretary of Semarang City Iswar Aminuddin, Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen, and Mayor of Solo Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

In Semarang, Owen will meet Semarang City Secretary Iswar Aminuddin, Tuesday (17/1) to discuss cooperation in fields, including the development of the mass transportation sector by taking a pilot in the Old Town area of ​​Semarang.

Cooperation in the field of public transportation, he continued, was not about infrastructure development, but more about how to ensure that public transportation that was available was accessible to everyone, and was friendly to women and disabilities.

After that, he said, Owen was scheduled to meet Central Java Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maemun to also discuss the development of transportation access in collaboration with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

For this cooperation, the aim is to develop the existing urban rail sector regarding access and services, including assisting with visibility studies of two new corridors.

Ambassador Owen then continued his visit to Solo, next Wednesday (18/1), to open the "Tech to Impact" event, a series of entrepreneurship meetings led by the British Embassy's Tech Hub Team.

A leader in the technology sector, Endeavor Indonesia was invited to share and inspire technology-based and technology-enabled businesses in Central Java including MSMEs on business growth, marketing and digital business.

"Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is scheduled to attend this event," Faye said as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 16.

Meanwhile, the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Owen Jenkins said in a written statement that the visit was his first official visit to Central Java, a province, which he considered had many opportunities for cooperation with the UK.

"The UK is doing a great job with Central Java in areas ranging from sustainable transport, education, and urban development, to renewable energy, healthcare, digital, and technology," he said.
