KUPANG - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has begun building 2,100 housing units for ex-East Timor fighters living in Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

"The government has started building thousands of houses for residents of former East Timor located in Fateleu which was marked by traditional rituals being carried out last Saturday, January 14, 2023, said Kupang Regent Korinus Masneno as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 16.

The construction of houses for ex-East Timor residents was carried out by the PUPR Ministry through the Nusa Tenggara II Housing Provision Implementation Center.

The signing of the housing construction contract was carried out some time ago by PPK Flats and Special Houses for the Unit for the Provision of Housing in NTT package II with PT Nindya Karya (Persero) and work on the construction of special houses for East Timorese warriors package III by PPK Flats and special houses for Satker PPK NTT Province with PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk.

Kupang Regent Korinus Masneno said the traditional ritual that had been carried out in front of the community leaders of Fatuleu and East Timor marked the start of the construction of 2,100 housing units and was a form of the bond of love and brotherhood between the residents of Fatuleu and the extended family of the former East Timorese.

"If the ties of the brotherhood have been tied through traditional rituals that begin with customary acceptance to slaughtering animals, whoever violates them is ready to bear the consequences himself", said Kupang Regent Korinus Masneno.

According to Regent Korinus Masneno, the construction of 2,100 housing units for former East Timorese combatants was the result of the struggle of the General Chair of the East Timor Fighters Communication Forum (KPTT) Eurico Gutteres when he met President Joko Widodo.

Kupang Regency received an allocation of 2,100 housing units out of a total of 52,000 housing units approved by President Joko Widodo to be given to former East Timorese fighters in East Nusa Tenggara.

"The number of houses that have been built is quite large so it is hoped that they will be able to meet the housing needs of former East Timorese combatants who are in Kupang Regency", said Korinus Masneno.
