BMKG Issues High Wave Warning in NTB

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to fishermen or residents to be aware of the potential for high waves in the waters of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"Wind speeds reached 27 knots with wave heights reaching 4.0 meters in the southern Lombok Strait, southern Alas Strait, and southern Sape Strait", said BMKG Meteorological Station forecaster Zainuddin Abdul Madjid Lombok, Gede Krisnawan, quoted from ANTARA on Saturday, January 14.

With the potential for high waves, fishermen and the public who are active in the waters of NTB are asked to remain vigilant and not go to sea when extreme weather occurs accompanied by high waves.

"Remain alert to the impact of high waves in the NTB region", he said.

The BMKG also issued an early weather warning to alert the potential for moderate to heavy intensity rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in parts of Mataram, West Lombok, Central Lombok, West Sumbawa, and Sumbawa from noon to evening.

With the potential for moderate to heavy rains, the public is advised to remain vigilant against the impact of natural disasters, such as floods, landslides, and fallen trees in parts of NTB.

"Stay alert to natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and fallen trees", he said.
