Jokowi's Message: Christians Light Candles Of Kindness, Don't Lose Hope

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that Christians will light candles of kindness in their hearts, to bring light to the darkness.

This was conveyed by the President in the welcoming video for the 2020 National Christmas celebrations uploaded through the Presidential Secretariat Youtube.

"I hope Christians everywhere continue to light candles in their hearts, candles of kindness, give light in the dark, bring new enthusiasm for us to recover and rise again," said President Jokowi, quoted by Antara, Sunday, December 27.

Jokowi said this year's Christmas was celebrated in a different atmosphere, because Christians could not celebrate Christmas as festively as in previous years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Jokowi said that as a believer, this heavy burden should not cause despair quickly.

He said that every Christmas celebration will find the light of small candles that are lit in every Christian home in the country. The candlelight reminds us all of God's presence.

"God, who is always with us, is present among us and works to restore himself to his people. Therefore I invite all Christians not to lose hope," explained the President.

Jokowi conveyed that the inclusion of a loving God, enabling all people to go beyond all worries and worries, to transform to face difficult times.

However, people must not remain silent, but must try both physically and mentally, carry out health protocols wholeheartedly, with full discipline, take care of themselves, their family and friends so they can avoid COVID-19.
