Roads Damaged Due to Floods in Kudus Repaired

KUDUS - The Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Office of Kudus Regency, Central Java, is repairing the Kudus Urinary Ring Road which was damaged badly enough to result in a traffic accident due to flood inundation.

Repairs are carried out by backfilling the damaged road with a top surface layer (LPA) so that vehicles can pass comfortably and there is no standing water.

"Temporary repairs are using LPA. After leveling them, hardening will also be carried out using asphalt", said Head of Public Works and Spatial Planning Office of Kudus Regency, Arif Budi Siswanto, quoted by ANTARA on Tuesday, January 10.

The thickness of the layer, he said, is around 20-25 centimeters (cm), while the length of the repaired road is around 100 meters for the two segments. While the material requirement is around 160 cubic meters.

The most important thing, he said, is for vehicles to pass comfortably because there are no more large gaping holes. The potential for accidents can also be minimized after previously there was a vehicle overturned.

The Ring Road, he said, is currently an alternative route for vehicles from Pati to Semarang and vice versa, avoiding flooding on the road in front of the Jati Kudus Induk Terminal.

Actually, he added, the road has never been flooded, but the rainfall was high and Jati Wetan Village, Jati District, Kudus was also flooded and it has not receded, eventually, the water in the rice fields overflowed onto the road and caused quite severe damage.

Efforts to repair damaged roads have also been carried out on other roads in urban areas, such as Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, A. Yani to Kudus-Jepara Street, and the Mejobo area.
