JABAR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that 21 houses of residents of Kertawinangun Village in Indramayu were badly damaged due to being hit by tidal waves accompanied by strong winds.

"In total, 21 houses were damaged by the tidal wave," said Indramayu Regency BPBD Chief Executive Dadang Oce Iskandar in Indramayu, West Java (West Java), Tuesday, January 3, as reported by Antara.

Oce said, on average, residents' houses in Kertawinangun Village collapsed in the walls. Some are even flattened to the ground after being hit by tidal waves.

He explained that the tidal wave occurred at the end of 2022, where the incident lasted for several days, so that the residents' houses which were right next to the shoreline were immediately affected.

"For residents' houses that were heavily damaged, this average was only a few meters from the shoreline, so every time the tidal wave was confirmed to be affected, and this time it was the worst," he said.

Oce added that a total of 384 people from 118 families were affected by tidal waves, and they had fled to the homes of their closest relatives, while the rest were displaced in public facilities.

The Indramayu Regency Government, continued Oce, is currently trying to collect data to relocate residents' houses which are subject to tidal wave disasters.

"The Regent of Indramayu has instructed to relocate the 118 families, but we are still coordinating with all relevant agencies," he said.
