Disabled Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng to be Tried Immediately Regarding Alleged Corruption in Church Construction

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has completed the case file for the Regent of Mimika, Papua, deactivating Eltinus Omaleng. He will be tried in the case of alleged corruption in the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church.

"Today, December 29, the handover of suspects and evidence has been completed from the investigation team to the prosecutor team with the suspect EO", said Head of KPK Reporting Section Ali Fikri in a written statement, Thursday, December 29.

In addition to the Eltinus file, the KPK has also completed a file belonging to the Head of the Regional Secretariat's Welfare Division, Mimika Marthen Sawy. Both will be remanded in custody for the next 20 days.

"As of December 29, 2022 to January 17, 2023", said Ali.

Furthermore, the prosecutor will prepare Eltinus and Marthen's charges within 14 days. The delegation to the Corruption Court will also be carried out immediately.

"Within 14 working days, the Prosecutor Team will immediately hand over the case files and indictments to the Corruption Court", he said.

As previously reported, Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng was detained by the KPK after being forcibly picked up. He is a suspect in alleged corruption in the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church in Mimika Regency, Papua.

Apart from Eltinus, there are two other suspects named by the KPK but have not yet been detained. They are the Head of the Welfare Section of the Mimika Regency Regional Secretariat who is the commitment-making official (PPK) Marthen Sawy and the Director of PT Waringin Megah (WM), Teguh Anggara.

In this case, the KPK suspected that there were discrepancies, including the length of time the church was built and the lack of volume of work even though payments had already been made. As a result, the state lost up to IDR 21.6 billion from the contract value of IDR 46 billion.

In addition, it is suspected that Eltinus made various arrangements. One of them directly appointed PT Waringin Megah led by Teguh Anggara.

From this appointment, it is suspected that an agreement was made to provide a fee of 10 percent, of which 7 percent was for Eltinus and 3 percent for Teguh.

Apart from that, it is suspected that there was a subcontractor from another company, namely PT Kuala Persada Papua Nusantara (KPPN).
