JAKARTA - Iran's foreign ministry said on Monday the arrest of British-related citizens showed London's "destructive role" in recent protests in Iran.

Asked by a reporter to comment on Sunday's announcement in Tehran of the arrests of seven people linked to Britain, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Lazi said: "Some countries, especially those you mentioned, have unconstructive roles related to the latest developments in Iran.

"Their role is really damaging and inciting riots," he said.

Lebih lanjut Berhihi mengatakan, Tehran telah memberihutahu pemerintah masing-masing pensihan dan telah "mengkomunikasikan kejahatan mereka" kepada mereka.

For "humanitarian reasons", he said, prisoners were allowed to contact their families during the Christmas holidays.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) said on Sunday, seven people including some of the dual citizenshipists were arrested for anti-government protests that had rocked the country.

Meanwhile, Britain's Foreign Ministry said it was seeking further information from Iranian authorities about reports that British-Iran dual nationals had been arrested.

Tehran blamed foreign enemies and their agents for bailing out the protests, which have turned into an Iranian people's uprising from all walks of life, being one of the boldest challenges for the country's clerical rulers since the 1979 revolution.

It has also taken increasingly aggressive steps against dual citizens, arresting dozens of people since the unrest began. Such actions have brought more international condemnation and isolated the Islamic Republic.

Separately, human rights group HRANA said, as of Sunday, 507 protesters had died, including 69 minors. It said 66 members of the security forces were also killed. A total of 18,516 protesters are believed to have been arrested, he said.

He said the files of some detainees were complete, while others were still under investigation.
