JAKARTA - Residents managed to arrest a suspected perpetrator of snatching a gold necklace on Jalan Jisah, RT 05/RW 10, Cibubur Village, Ciracas District, East Jakarta, Wednesday, December 14.

The Head of Ciracas Police, Kompol Jupriono, in Jakarta, Thursday, December 15, said that the perpetrators had been taken by residents who immediately handed them over to the police station.

"It was secured yesterday by residents. Now it is at the Ciracas Police," Jupriono said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 15.

Jupriono added that currently his party is still investigating the perpetrators of the gold necklace snatching.

"For the time being, from the suspect's confession, he carried out his own actions," said Jupriono.

Meanwhile, the victim of the mugging Rahmi (64) said the perpetrator was arrested after his action of snatching the gold necklace he was wearing failed.

"He came initially pretending to be a buyer at my shop," said Rahmi.

The perpetrator snatched the gold necklace when the victim was careless and was about to prepare the items he bought. But the action failed, and the victim shouted at the perpetrator.

Residents who heard the victim's screams tried to catch him. Luckily at that time the perpetrator fell from his motorbike, making it easier for residents to catch him.

When arrested by residents, the perpetrator admitted that he had previously carried out snatching cell phones and necklaces in the Cibubur Village area, Kalisari Village, to Kramat Jati.

Rahmi said that the perpetrators were also beaten by a number of residents who were annoyed by the mugging action.
