WEST JAVA - The Cianjur Regency Government recorded the latest data on the number of victims who died as a result of the 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Cianjur totaling 600 people. Most of the victims who died were not recorded.

Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman said the number of victims had increased after re-data collection, in which around 265 earthquake victims who died were not reported but were immediately buried by their families.

"Many did not report their family members who died as a result of the earthquake. After re-data collection, the number reached 600 people spread across several villages in Pacet, Cugenang, Cianjur, and Warungkondang sub-districts", he said in Cianjur, West Java, Monday, December 12, confiscated by Antara.

Herman explained that there were eight victims of the Cianjur earthquake in Cugenang District who had not been found, in Pacet and Warungkondang Subdistricts many of whom had been buried without being reported.

After data collection, he said, the number of deaths reached 400 people who were not included in the list at the Cianjur Regency Government.

Herman said the Cianjur Regency Government asked the RT/RW and village officials to re-data of residents who died as a result of the earthquake and were not taken to hospitals or health centers until 600 people were found to have died as a result of the earthquake.

"Data on victims who died is based on name per address with a death certificate from the village government, so this data will be forwarded to the Ministry of Social Affairs so that the families left behind can receive funeral money", he said.

He explained that in Cugenang Subdistrict alone, it was recorded that 400 victims died as a result of the earthquake, including eight people who have not been found, plus those from Pacet, Cianjur, and Warungkondang Subdistricts because they had been buried but were not reported, so they were not included in the Cianjur Regency Government list.

The funeral money will be handed over at the end of the year to the heirs after obtaining approval from the Ministry of Social Affairs.

"We have submitted it and will soon be disbursed from the Ministry of Health to then be distributed to heirs at the end of the year", said Herman Suherman.

Previously, the Cianjur Regency Government noted that the death toll from the earthquake in Cianjur increased to 335 after the joint SAR team managed to evacuate the body of an 11-year-old boy from Cibulakan Village, Cugenang District, while eight others were still being sought.
