Ganjar Instructions Reforestation In Upstream Kendeng Mountains Prevents Floods

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo instructed local governments to reforestation upstream of the Kendeng Mountains in order to prevent flash floods when rainfall is high. It must be done immediately while there is still time," he said on the sidelines of visiting flood-affected villages in Sinomwidodo Village (Tambakromo District) and Godo Village (Winong District) in Pati, Antara, Wednesday, December 7. According to him, the occurrence of flooding due to forest management in Kendeng Mountains which does not maximize indicates that the forest management is not good, so that there are no plants or trees whose function is to support water. The local area, said Ganjar, must be a conservation area so that the flash flood disaster does not repeat itself. Regarding assistance, he continued, the Central Java Provincial Government is making an inventory of the needs of residents who have not been fulfilled because from a number of residents who were met with basic food assistance to food has been fulfilled. "The current needs of residents include mattresses, stoves, school equipment, and cooking utensils. Meanwhile, damaged houses will be assisted in repairs," said Ganjar. Meanwhile, Pati Regent Henggar Budi Anggoro revealed that his party had prepared plant seeds to be planted in the Kendeng Mountains area. High rainfall in Pati Regency caused five sub-districts in Pati Regency to experience flooding due to the overflow of the local river on Wednesday (30/11). The sub-districts affected by the flood were Pucakwangi, Winong, Tambakromo, Kayen, and Gabus sub-districts. Meanwhile, Tambakromo and Winong sub-districts are the worst affected by flash floods.
