JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono guarantees that the availability of food in Jakarta will be maintained ahead of Christmas 2022 and New Year's Day 2023 or Nataru. Heru conveyed this after visiting the Kramat Jati Main Market, East Jakarta.

"God willing, prices will stabilize, the supply will be safe, even until March," said Heru, Tuesday, December 6.

Heru said that his visit to the Kramat Jati Main Market was carried out to ensure that the availability of food commodity stocks and supplies was maintained, as well as to facilitate food distribution.

"This morning we carried out price monitoring and stock to ensure the needs were available to Jakarta residents. Previously, we had carried out a technical meeting of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), to maintain the supply of basic goods and essential goods," said Heru.

Based on data from the DKI Provincial Government, food needs in Jakarta increased by around 1-12 percent in December 2022 compared to November 2022.

The highest increase in the need for chicken eggs was 12.72 percent, while the lowest increase in demand for garlic was 0.76 percent.

Although there is an increase in prices along with the increase in public demand, Heru said the government has helped people's purchasing power by holding subsidized low-cost food programs which are now being extended until December 10.

"Earlier, there were a few (food prices) that rose, eggs, yes? However, some of the people who were in accordance with the criteria and programs of the KJP, received subsidies, so certain people received subsidies," said Heru.

Meanwhile, Assistant Regional Secretary for the Economy of DKI Jakarta Sri Haryati explained that the increase in food prices which are currently tenuous often occurs towards the end of the year. However, now the increase is not significant.

"Indeed, before Nataru, we have monitored, there has been an increase in demand from the public. Well, it was seen that there was indeed a slight increase (food prices). But when compared to yoy (year on year) last year. The increase this year is much more stable," explained Sri.
