BIAK - The Government of Biak Numfor Regency, Papua prohibits the sale and circulation of alcoholic beverages during the event period to welcome Christmas and New Year's 2023. "I have prepared a circular for the prohibition and sale of alcoholic beverages starting December 5, 2023," said Biak Regent Herry Ario Naap in Biak, Antara, Sunday, December 4. He hopes that the issuance of a circular prohibiting and circulating alcoholic beverages will serve as a guide for law enforcement officials to take action against those who violate it. Regent Herry Naap appealed to people in Biak Numfor Regency to always maintain order and peace during Christmas and New Year's 2023 holidays by not consuming any type of alcohol. He invited all religious people to maintain tolerance while welcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. "Let's take care of Biak Numfor as the most tolerant city in Papua by respecting and maintaining togetherness in celebrating religious holidays," added Herry Naap. Asked about sanctions for business actors who violate the sale of alcoholic beverages, according to Regent Herry Naap, the heaviest sanctions can be revoked by business licenses while other sanctions can be charged with criminal acts. Regent Herry Naap said, to oversee the prohibition on the circulation of alcoholic beverage sales, the Biak Numfor Regency Government would ask the Civil Service Police Unit and the Resort Police to oversee the regent's instructions regarding the prohibition of alcohol. "I hope that kiosk and shops businesses will pay attention to the prohibition on the circulation and sale of alcoholic beverages so that they can help maintain the peace of Biak Numfor to welcome the waiting period for the Christmas of the birth of Jesus Christ," said Regent Herry Naap. According to ANTARA's monitoring, Sunday to 18.00 WIT, a number of shops and kiosks in the surrounding Biak City were still seen selling various types of alcoholic beverages, types of beer, pizza and wine.
