JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that nine aftershocks had occurred in Cianjur, West Java.

"As of 13.50 WIB, the results of BMKG monitoring showed that there were nine aftershocks with the largest magnitude M4.0," said Acting Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono, confirmed in Jakarta, Monday, November 21.

The earthquake that rocked the southwestern region of Cianjur, West Java at 13.21 WIB, Monday, was an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6.

"Please be vigilant, the earthquake is a land earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 has the potential to be damaging," he said.

He appealed to the public to avoid cracked buildings and cliffs that have the potential to landslides. In addition, be careful of aftershocks that may occur.

He explained that the epicenter of the earthquake was 10 kilometers southwest of Cianjur, West Java, precisely at 6.84 South Latitude, 107.05 East Longitude with a depth of 10 kilometers.

By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, he continued, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to Cimandiri fault activity.

"The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a sliding mechanism (strike-slip)," he explained.

He added that the earthquake shock was felt in Cianjur with an intensity scale of V MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) or vibrations felt by almost all residents, many people woke up.
