Garut Police dismantled a syndicate of motorcycle theft and pickup which - based on evidence - has often taken action in the Garut Regency, West Java with nine units of stolen evidence.

"We managed to uncover a syndicate of four-wheeled and two-wheeled thefts that occurred in the past few days," said Garut Police Chief, AKBP Wirdhanto Hadichaksono during a press conference at his office, Friday, November 18, as reported by Antara.

The case was revealed based on reports from the public who lost their pickup and motorbikes in Pameungpeuk and Karangpawitan sub-districts, Garut in early November 2022.

The results of the report, he said, the Garut Police Sancang Team managed to arrest the perpetrators as many as two people, namely the initials AR (45) a resident of Bandung Regency who was a recidivist in a theft case, and DF (52) a resident of Garut with evidence confiscated from the suspect, namely one pickup and eight motorcycles.

"Currently, we are still developing other perpetrators, because there are two more DPOs (wanted lists) that we are pursuing," he said.

He conveyed that the two suspects who were detained were suspected leaders in the theft of motorized vehicles that had been carried out in Garut.

Especially for pickup cars, he said, he admitted that this was the first time he had done it, even so the police were still investigating because it was suspected that there was a network and also carried out similar actions in other areas.

"His confession is only now stealing a pickup, but we will not just believe it, and will continue to be investigated," said the Police Chief.

He conveyed that all the stolen evidence would be handed over to the owner on condition that he showed the official vehicle ownership file.

The police at the press conference immediately handed over the pickup to the owner after checking the documents and proof of ownership.

"We will hand over the pickup to the direct owner," he said.

The police chief appealed to the public to always be aware of the theft of motorbikes and cars, because the current perpetrators are quite easy to take the vehicle that is the target.

The police chief advised vehicle owners not to park carelessly, and to use double locks to make it difficult for perpetrators to take motorized vehicles.

"We urge you to use a motorized vehicle double key, the good thing is that the tire safety lock key so that the vehicle cannot be moved," said the Police Chief.

Meanwhile, the perpetrators of the theft are currently languishing in the Garut Police detention cell and are charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with weight, with a penalty of seven years in prison.
