JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives reminded the government to immediately issue a Presidential Letter (Surpres) regarding the replacement of the TNI Commander who will enter retirement. Commission I of the DPR asked the leadership of the DPR to urge the government to speed up the Surpres because the council will enter a recess next month. "The presidential decree is 20 days before the end of the session period, the DPR must send the name (head-in-chief) to the government. Now the DPR will enter the recess period on December 16. This means that before the 24 fit and proper test, the candidate for the TNI Commander has just been completed," said a member of Commission I of the DPR from the PDIP faction, TB Hasanuddin, told reporters, Wednesday, September 16. According to the law, Hasanuddin continued, the position of TNI Commander cannot be extended because it does not include positions that require specialist knowledge. Meanwhile, the fit and proper test time for the candidate for the TNI Commander is no later than 8 days. "Now on the 16th, 8 days away, the name has not been sent. Many people have questioned maybe the TNI Commander will be extended because it has not been sent. Based on the legislation, there is no extension of the position of TNI commander unless those who have specialist knowledge. For example, a cardiologist, or machine expert. That's usually only the first officer," he explained. Therefore, the PDIP politician assessed that the President must send the name of a candidate to replace the TNI Commander this week. "Next week, the fit and proper test must be fulfilled in Article 13 of the TNI Law. That 20 days before the recess period, the name of the new TNI Commander must have been sent back to the Palace. The law regulates this," he said. Even so, Hasanuddin believes the government will send the name of the candidate commander in chief this week. He admitted that he had communicated with the Deputy Speaker of the DPR for the field of Korpolkam Lodewijk F Paulus to immediately confirm the palace. "I have conveyed to Mr. Lodewijk, and the Secretary General of the DPR has contacted Sesneg, and is currently in process.
