JAKARTA - The National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) recommends the government to conduct an overall audit of drug distribution permits in line with cases of acute kidney disorders in children.

"Auditing the entire process of issuing drug distribution permits, from pre-registration to distribution," said Head of BPKN Rizal E Halim in a hearing (RDP) with Commission VI DPR, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 3.

According to him, the government needs to conduct an audit to the POM Agency, whether it is true that the registration process is carried out to test the safety of the products that will be given a distribution permit.

"Because suddenly today it is said that it is not polluted, tomorrow it is said to be polluted, there are doubts," he said.

He said that finished products already circulating in the country must also be retested to ensure that drugs and food in circulation meet the standards and requirements for safety, efficacy or benefits, and product quality.

In addition, BPKN also recommends that the government conduct a thorough audit of the drug supply process, including its raw materials from upstream to downstream.

"When raw materials enter through importation, because the import of solutions is generally imported, some of which can be used for medicine, food, and the needs of the manufacturing industry," he said.

Rizal also said that his party would provide advocacy assistance in accordance with the mandate given by law to BPKN.

"We will continue to advocate for the families of the victims, we will provide assistance and we will convey what consumer rights are," he said.
