YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) is intensifying the enforcement of Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2017 concerning Non-Smoking Areas (KTR). One of them is in the Malioboro area. "Until now, we still prioritize appeals and education to the public. If there are violators, the officers will remind them. It has not yet reached a fine," said Secretary of the Yogyakarta City Satpol PP Hery Eko Prasetyo in Yogyakarta, Antara, Thursday, November 3. According to him, officers still often find residents or tourists who smoke carelessly in the Malioboro area even though along the area a number of smoking locations have been prepared. "So far, we are still implementing non-judictation efforts because the enforcement of judicial sanctions is quite heavy," he said. Violators of the KTR Regional Regulation are threatened with a maximum fine of IDR 7.5 million or a maximum imprisonment of one month. "For this reason, until now we are still prioritizing the appeal. When someone smokes, they are asked to turn off the cigarette and throw it in the right place. They are directed to a special location for smoking so as not to disturb the comfort of other tourists, "he said. Based on the Regional Regulation on KTR, in the city of Yogyakarta, there are eight areas designated as non-smoking areas, namely health services, educational places, children's playgrounds, places of worship, public transportation, workplaces, tourist attractions, and other places set by the government. "In addition to the tourist area of Malioboro, we enforce local regulations in places that are included in non-smoking areas. Its nature coincides with the routine patrols we carry out," he said. Previously, the Yogyakarta City Government had compiled a "road map" for the enforcement of the KTR Regional Regulation which was realized in stages to provide space for the community to adapt to the regulations that must be carried out. A number of these "road maps" plans include increasing community participation in their respective environments to considering stricter sanctions to giving appreciation for the implementation of KTR.
