BMKG Says Residents In Riau Islands Can See Total Lunar Eclipse On November 8

BATAM - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Hang Nadim Batam said all regions in the Riau Islands Province could see the phenomenon of a total lunar eclipse that occurred on November 8, 2022.

"If you look at the central BMKG graphic data, the total lunar eclipse can be seen in western Indonesia. The Riau Islands are in the western part, all regions including Natuna and Anambas in the northern part can also see the eclipse," said BMKG analyst and forecaster Hang Nadim Batam, Nizam Mawardi via message in Batam, Riau Islands, Antara, Wednesday, November 2.

Nizam explained that the time for the appearance of a total lunar eclipse in the Riau Islands region is expected to occur in the afternoon or late in the evening. "In the Riau Islands region, a total lunar eclipse will appear at the same time as the moonrise," he said.

This natural phenomenon can also be enjoyed in various places as long as it is not constrained by weather such as cloud cover or rain.

"Anywhere possible, the important thing is not covered by clouds or rain. Because it took place late at night, if there were no obstacles, it would be clear,” he said.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that the total lunar eclipse phenomenon can be observed from Indonesia on November 8, 2022.

"The duration of the total lunar eclipse on November 8, 2022, will last for one hour 25 minutes 44 seconds," said a piece of information as quoted from the BMKG website on Wednesday.

He explained that a lunar eclipse is an event where the sun's light is blocked by the earth so that not all of it reaches the moon.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon-sun-earth are aligned. This causes the Moon to enter the Earth's umbra. As a result, when the peak of the eclipse occurs, the moon will appear red.

Previously, BRIN Aeronautics and Space Research Organization Research Center Researcher Andi Pangerang said that all regions of Indonesia except Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Bengkulu could observe the peak of the total lunar eclipse.

"The impact of a total lunar eclipse on human life is that the tides are higher than normal days when there is no eclipse, full moon or new moon," he said.
