Dguyur Hujan Deras, Eight Subdistricts In Malang Alami Floods And Landslides

JAKARTA - Malang Regency BPBD noted that eight sub-districts were affected by floods and landslides due to high-intensity rain on Monday, October 17 yesterday.

Head of Emergency and Logistics BPBD Malang Regency, East Java, Sadono Irawan said, there were three disasters caused by the heavy rains, namely flash floods, overflowing floods and landslides.

"The disaster occurred in eight sub-districts in the southern part of Malang," said Sadono, Tuesday, October 18, as reported by Antara.

The eight sub-districts affected by the disaster are Ampelgading, Tirtoyudo, Dampit, Sumbermjing Wetan, Gedangan, Bantangr, Pagak, and Donomulyo sub-districts.

Landslides occurred in Ampelgading, Dampit, Donomomulyo, Sumbermjing Wetan, and Tirtoyudo sub-districts. The landslide affected at least 15 villages in the area.

"For the overflowing flood, it occurred in Bantur, Gedangan, Sumbermjing Wetan, Donomomulyo and Pagak sub-districts. There were approximately eight affected villages," he said.

Meanwhile, flash floods, he continued, occurred in the Tirtoyudo and Ampelgading sub-districts. The flash flood affected more than 990 families.

"For flash floods in Pujiharjo Village, there are 267 families and in Lebakharjo Village, 723 families have been affected," he said.

The Malang Regency BPBD has set a hydrometeorological disaster emergency alert status in the region, entering a rainy season that has the potential to cause a disaster since October 1, 2022.

The basis for determining the emergency alert status is a circular issued by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) regarding the potential for hydrometeorological disasters in the Malang Regency area.

In addition, based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) which shows data on the potential for rainfall in the Malang Regency area, as well as natural disasters in September 2022.
