Ministry Of Health Researches Viruses And Bacteria Related To Mysterious Acute Kidney

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health is researching the relationship between a number of viruses and bacteria that have triggered mysterious cases of acute kidney disease in Indonesia.

"Our team has been formed, the Ministry of Health always updates developments on surveillance observations and looks for the cause with epidemiological investigations," said Director General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Ministry of Health, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 17.

According to Maxi, the Ministry of Health together with a number of researchers from universities and professional organizations is conducting a genome sequencing examination of the relationship between the leptospirosis virus or bacterial disease that is spread through the urine of infected animals.

In addition, research was also conducted on the possible effect of influenza virus to adenovirus on patients.

The three viruses are strongly suspected as the main factors triggering mysterious acute kidney disorders in Indonesia.

Based on data from the Ministry of Health as of Monday, October 17, the number of reported cases of mysterious acute kidney disorders reached a total of 156 cases, most of which came from DKI Jakarta and West Java.

"Every time there are symptoms, we immediately investigate. Generally reported from the island of Java," he said.

The Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) has announced a number of symptoms commonly experienced by patients with mysterious acute kidney disorders, one of which is the color frequency and amount of urine.

Called reduced urine if the amount is less than 0.5 ml/kg/hour in infants, or no urine at all for 6 to 8 hours during the day. The color of urine tends to be dark yellow.
