TGIPF Claims to Complete Investigation of Kanjuruhan's Deadly Tragedy Faster Than Jokowi's Target

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Joint Independent Fact-Finding Team (TGIPF) for the Malang Kanjuruhan Stadium incident, Mahfud MD, is confident that he will be able to complete the series of investigations for the preparation of files and recommendations faster than the target given by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Originally, Jokowi gave TGIPF a month to complete the whole thing.

"So if in the past we asked the president for one month to say if it could be two weeks, we God willing, it will be 10 days sooner, meaning that this Friday can be submitted", Mahfud said to reporters, Tuesday, October 11.

According to him, the progress of the investigation is now almost complete. The team formed only needs to compile a report file which will later be submitted to the president.

The preparation of the file will begin tomorrow. Thus, it is targeted that all investigation results will be submitted by Friday, October 14.

"Tomorrow, starting Wednesday, the team will immediately conduct an analysis as well as draw up conclusions and recommendations so that I hope I can submit the report to the president on Friday this week", said Mahfud.

Apart from the preparation of the files, in the investigation, there was some unfinished business. For example, ascertaining how dangerously expired tear gas is.

Currently, the expired tear gas is being investigated in the laboratory.

"Important evidence obtained from the field is currently being studied and some are also being examined in the laboratory. For example, regarding the content of expired tear gas", said Mahfud.

For information, behind the tragedy of the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang, at least 132 people died. Later, hundreds of other people suffered minor to serious injuries.

In handling the case, the Police have named six suspects. They include the President Director of PT LIB, Akhmad Hadian Lukita, Chair of the Arema FC Panpel, Abdul Haris, and Arema Security Officer, Suko Sutrisno.

Then, Malang Police Head of Ops, Kompol Wahyu Setyo Pranoto, Malang Police Samapta Head AKP Bambang Sidik Achmadi, and East Java Police Mobile Brigade Company Commander AKP Hasdarman.

They are suspected of being under Article 359 of the Criminal Code and or Article 360 of the Criminal Code and or Article 130 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 52 of Law Number 11 of 2022.

In addition to the six names set by the suspects, the police also briefly questioned 31 police personnel. From the results, it was found that 20 people were declared as alleged violators of the code of ethics.

They consist of four main Malang Police officers, two personnel as supervisors and controllers, three personnel as those who ordered the firing of tear gas, and 11 personnel who fired tear gas.
