JAKARTA - The National Police revealed that only two of the eight emergency exits were open when the tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium occurred on Saturday, October 1.

The door was even used only to evacuate Persebaya players who competed away at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang. As a result, Arema FC or Aremania supporters could not immediately come out when tear gas was fired.

"The emergency doors of the eight are open, only two are for the Persebaya player evacuation route," said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo to reporters, Saturday, October 8.

Meanwhile, the other six doors, continued Dedi, could not function. "They are closed, locked," he said.

He then revealed that the organizers were negligent and did not prepare an emergency plan during the Arema FC match against Persebaya. As a result, 131 Aremania died when the tragedy occurred.

As previously reported, the Correspondence Tragedy killed hundreds of people. Furthermore, as a result of this incident six people were named as suspects.

The suspects are LIB President Director Ahmad Hadian Lukita, Malang Arema Executive Committee Chair Abdul Haris, and Malang Police Ops Head Kompol Wahyu Setyo Pranoto.

Then, Head of Samapta Malang Police AKP Bambang Sidik Achmadi, Brimob Company Commander of the East Java Police AKP Hasdarman, and Securityward Suko Sutrisno.

They were named as suspects because they were considered to be responsible for the series of matches until the deadly tragedy occurred.

In this case, they are suspected of having multiple articles, namely Article 359 and Article 360 of the Criminal Code related to mistakes that caused death. In addition, the suspects were also subject to Article 103 and Article 52 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 11 of 2022 concerning Sport.
