PAPUA - The Sorong City Government has installed an online water quality monitoring system equipment or ONLIMO in the Remu River. Installation is to maintain the quality of the river which is a source of water for the residents' needs.
Head of the Sorong City Environmental Protection and Management Agency (PPLH), Julian Kelly Kambu, said the procurement of river water quality monitoring equipment was sourced from a special allocation fund or DAK for the 2022 fiscal year worth Rp. 1.3 billion.
"The main goal of this tool is clearly to maintain the quality of the Remu River water, which is currently the only source of clean water for the community," Kelly said in Sorong, quoted from Antara, Friday, October 7. He said the device was in the process of being installed by a technical team at the intake of the Remu River, to detect the quality of water that has been managed by clean water companies to meet the needs of the community.
The water quality model is installed using a digital system and monitors are installed in the mayor's office to monitor the water quality of the Remu River regularly every day.
To monitor regularly, one staff of the Environmental Protection and Management Service and one staff of the clean water company Tirta Remu were specially trained to carry out monitoring using ONLIMO tools.
He said, the purpose of routine monitoring is so that if there is a change in particles in the Remu river water, such as suddenly containing direct metal material, immediate treatment is carried out.
With this monitoring tool, changes in the quality of the Remu River water automatically and continuously can be monitored every day as well as people who want to know about this information can see directly on the screen of the mayor's office's first floor monitor.
