JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Highways Agency has expanded pedestrian access to the transit area on Rasuna Said Street, South Jakarta, in order to reduce the use of private vehicles and encourage the use of public transportation.

"We will develop Rasuna Said like the Thamrin area," said Head of the DKI Highways Agency, Hari Nugroho, as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 3.

His party has started talks with BUMN, Adhi Karya as the owner of the monorail pole assets that still exist along Rasuna Said Street.

If it goes smoothly, it is hoped that the repair of the pedestrian path can enter the planning stage in 2023.

"If the iron can be removed, later the MoU will determine whether the Regional Government replaces the iron, there will be further discussions. What is clear is that it is our priority to build something like the Thamrin area," he continued.

The length of Rasuna Said Street which has the potential to be widened for pedestrian access is about four kilometers each on the right and left of the road.

The hope is that pedestrian access will support people who go to transit areas such as the TransJakarta Bus Stop and the Integrated Cross-Highway Train Station (LRT).

The pedestrian repair will complete the revitalization of the sidewalks in 25 roads in Jakarta, which currently has reached 90 percent.

The rest, he said, was just to tidy up and beautify a number of sidewalks, including the installation of chairs and markers.

Hari added that until last year, the total sidewalks that had been revitalized reached around 265 kilometers.

He explained that the number is still around 15 percent of the total length of roads in Jakarta reaching 1,300 kilometers, respectively, left and right.
