Researcher at the Center for Anti-Corruption Studies at Gadjah Mada University: KPK has strong evidence to ensnare Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe

JAKARTA - Researcher from the Anti-Corruption Study Center (Pukat) Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta, Zaenur Rohman, believes that investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have strong evidence so that they can identify Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe as a suspect.

"What is clear is that I believe that the KPK has evidence to ensnare the suspect. Therefore, once again, party cadres should not be corrupt", Zaenur said in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 30.

The statement dismissed allegations of a political motive behind the determination of Lukas Enembe as a suspect in the alleged case of receiving gratuities. The chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, was one of those who dragged the Lukas case into a political motive.

According to Zaenur, allegations of political motives must be proven. If there is sufficient evidence, it can be reported to the KPK Supervisory Board.

"About whether the KPK is independent or not in the Lukas Enembe case, please let the Democratic Party collect evidence. Then report it to the KPK Council if it finds ethical violations by KPK personnel", said Zaenur.

Zaenur said Lukas is a politician who certainly has many political rivals. He said that running into each other in the world of politics has become natural because politics cannot be separated from the power struggle.

However, he continued, in the context of law enforcement, as long as there is strong evidence, law enforcers are obliged to process criminal acts of corruption. Law enforcers need not worry about the political repercussions.

For political parties, said Zaenur, there must be good faith in avoiding corruption and political education for cadres to avoid corruption. If there are cadres who are corrupt, they must be firm by dismissing them.

"This is a form of good faith for the anti-corruption attitude of political parties. The only way so that party cadres are not tricked by their political rivals is by not engaging in corruption", said Zaenur.
