One of the BPBD officers who was met at the Halus Sujaya location stated that the evacuation of the five students was based on information received from the Imam Bonjol branch post to immediately prepare for evacuation actions.
"Initial information was that people were trapped in the elevator. After that, we headed to the crime scene with equipment", he said at the location, Antara, Sunday evening.
In evacuating, the officers experienced difficulties due to limited equipment and also the lack of experience of officers in handling the problem of elevators experiencing congestion.
The evacuation process itself, said Sujaya, takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Of the five people who were trapped, one person experienced weakness, so BPBD officers were immediately assisted by providing oxygen assistance.
Meanwhile, Dionisius, a student who was interviewed after being evacuated by the BPBD team, stated that the incident occurred when they were about to hold an activity with their group members in one of the rooms on the campus.
"Initially we got into the elevator, there were eight people. The elevator didn't want to go up. Finally, three people got out. The rest went up", he said.
He said that before they got stuck in the lift, they had signed such as the elevator doors not closing and the elevator being unable to transport them to the second floor where they were headed.
"When the elevator went up to the second floor, it only went up for a while, suddenly the elevator stopped. Yes, we pressed the button but it couldn't work", he said.
Realizing this, they pressed the bell button to alert their friends outside.
They also reported the incident to the Denpasar City BPBD to get help as soon as possible.
In this incident, one person panicked and was given breathing aids with the aids brought by the Denpasar BPBD.
According to Dion, he and his four friends were trapped for an hour and a half in the elevator.
