MEDAN - The Water and Air Police (Polairud) Team of the North Sumatra Police arrested a fisherman who traded in a protected species of horseshoe crab (belangkas) at Simpang III Location, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency.

Herwansyah said that IB was arrested by personnel from the Law Enforcement Sub Directorate of Polairud North Sumatra Police after receiving information from the public about someone bringing a protected species of hornbill from the Bagan destination to Simpang III Location, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency.

"Then the personnel carried out monitoring around Bagan Belawan and found an adult male using a wheelbarrow unit carrying 180 animals that were protected by the type of hornbill," he said.

The modus operandi of the suspect was to collect the ginger root and trap it using a net.

"Currently, suspect IB along with evidence of hundreds of horseshoe crabs has been brought to the Head of the Directorate of Polairud Polda North Sumatra to undergo further examination and is threatened with 5 years in prison," said Herwansyah.
