JAKARTA - A total of 27 gampongs or villages spread across eight sub-districts in South Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, were reportedly flooded due to extreme rains in the local area.

"Information from the South Aceh BPBD Pusdalops, the latest condition of the water has not receded," said BPBA Chief Executive Ilyas through the Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) in Banda Aceh, Antara, Friday, August 26.

Ilyas explained that the flooding in South Aceh started last Thursday at around 16.37 WIB. The flood was triggered by high-intensity rainfall that flushed the local district, causing the river to overflow.

"Extreme weather hit eight sub-districts in South Aceh, causing floods to submerge people's houses with water levels of about 30-50 centimeters," said Ilyas.

He said the affected sub-districts include Sawang District with a total of six villages, Meukek as many as nine villages, Kota Bagia District, Kluet Tengah, and Pasie Raja each one village.

Furthermore, West Labuhanhaji District has four villages, East Labuhanhaji two villages, and Central Labuhanhaji District as many as three villages.

For the affected victims, said llyas, temporary data are only known to 145 people in 41 families (KK) in two villages in Sawang District.

"The rest of the affected victims in other sub-districts are still being collected, as well as the material impacts due to this flood," he said.

He added that there were no casualties in the incident. South Aceh BPBD continues to coordinate with related parties to monitor flood conditions as well as collect data.

In addition to South Aceh Regency, according to Ilyas, the flood also submerged the houses of 20 families in Trans Sigulai Village, West Simeulue District, Simeulue Regency.

Ilyas said, flooding in Simeulue also started on Thursday, yesterday, at around 14:22 WIB. The flood that submerged the residents' houses was also caused by the extreme weather that hit Simeulue Regency.

“The water level is about 1.5 meters. Meanwhile, as many as 15 families affected by the flood had to evacuate to the local Transmigration Elementary School," said Ilyas.

BPBD Simeulue has also distributed aid during panic attacks for victims. Officers continue to monitor and collect data at the scene.

"The latest information received by Pusdalops BPBA is that the water has not receded," he said.
