Vice President: Indonesia Needs To Be Alert Even If It Is Able To Get Through The Crisis Well

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stressed that Indonesia needs to remain vigilant even though it has been able to get through the crisis well, even with various positive achievements in various economic sectors.

This was conveyed by Ma'ruf Amin in his online remarks at the XXII Indonesian Economic Bachelors Association (ISEI) Plenary Session and the 2022 ISEI National Seminar in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 24.

"Our nation should be grateful for the various achievements in the midst of various problems, including economic growth that shows a positive trend, relatively controlled inflation, and a trade balance surplus. Even so, we must be vigilant because various obstacles have been blocking our eyes", he said. Ma'ruf was reported by ANTARA.

The vice president mentioned several challenges ahead, including at the global level, inflation in European countries and the United States which broke above 8 percent. Meanwhile, at the domestic level, since the early 2000s, the contribution of the industrial sector to gross domestic product (GDP) has continued to decline.

For that, said Ma'ruf, there must be an economic deepening that provides added value.

"This means that value-added economic deepening becomes homework in the future. Re-industrialization is an unavoidable choice", he said.

In terms of food and energy independence, he sees the need for strengthening and equitable distribution of the two sectors that are the backbone of the economy so that they can contribute to equitable distribution of welfare in Indonesia.

From the economic aspect, said the Vice President, pursuing economic growth must also strive to achieve equitable development, namely ensuring the presence of economic infrastructure, education, health, and technology in remote areas of the country so that economic growth touches all layers, not just a handful of people who enjoy it.

Closing his remarks, the Vice President reminded that Indonesia's ability to face challenges must be a valuable experience as a provision to face the next challenges in the future.

"History teaches that Indonesia was able to get out of the 2008 crisis well and the economy is back on the path of recovery step by step. I am also sure that the socio-economic problems we are facing this time can be passed well, God willing, armed with this experience and knowledge", said the vice president.
