JAKARTA - Ancol Commissioner, Geisz Chalifah said the fire incident that occurred in the cottage area of Putri Duyung Resort, Ancol, North Jakarta was still under investigation.

"Yes, there was a fire at the whale hotel, but chronologically we don't know what it was like, it's still under research," said Geisz when contacted, Sunday, August 21.

Geisz said the cottage that caught fire was an old hotel and should have wanted to be renovated for a long time, but was hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Because this cottage is an old cottage that should have been rehabilitated from last year, it's already in the planning process that is not right, because of the pandemic," he said.

Meanwhile, Ancol Public Relations official, Hariyadi Eko Nugroho, said the condition of the burned area had completely extinguished after being assisted by 20 fire engines to extinguish it.

"Regarding the fire that occurred at Putri Mermaid Ancol in the afternoon, the situation is now completely extinguished," said Eko.

Nevertheless, Eko claimed, after the fire incident this afternoon, the activities of the Mermaid Hotel returned to normal.

"Currently, Ancol and Putri Duyung's operations have returned to normal, and the affected areas have been isolated," he said.

Previously, the cottage building in the Putri Duyung Resort area, Taman Impian Jaya Ancol in Pademangan, North Jakarta, caught fire on Sunday, August 21 at around 17.00 WIB.
