2,065 Climbers Flag Ceremony On Mount Bawakaraeng, South Sulawesi

MAKASSAR - A total of 2,065 climbers from various campus organizations for nature lovers, communities and nature lover groups (KPA) in South Sulawesi participated in the flag ceremony of the 77th Indonesian Independence Day at Mount Bawakaraeng, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi.

Data from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of South Sulawesi at the Lembbana Red and White Alert Post on Wednesday stated that on August 17, 2020 the number of climbers on Mount Bawakaraeng to carry out the flag ceremony was recorded at 2,065 people.

Climbers were at the top following the flag ceremony as many as 788 people and in the Ramma Valley as many as 1,227 people. The route up to the mountain is in Lembbana, Gowa Regency and Tassoso in Sinjai Regency.

"Currently, some of the climbers who carried out the flag ceremony on Mount Bawakaraeng have descended. Now at the top there are still 10 tents left," said Head of the Operations and Alert Section of the South Sulawesi Basarnas, Muhammad Rizal, as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 17.

Since the morning after the ceremony, both at post 10, the peak of the mountain, and at post five in the Ramma Valley, a number of climbers have made preparations to descend through two routes and will arrive at Bulu Balea and Lembanna, the foot of Mount Bawakaraeng escorted by the Joint SAR team.

"At post eight and post five the climbers have all shifted downwards. We all want to go down to Lembanna, maybe tonight all of them will be in Lembanna," he said.

Meanwhile, it was also stated that one of the climbers suffered an injury to his leg while heading to the top of the mountain to attend the ceremony. His condition has definitely improved.

"It's getting better, the trouble (problem) is at post eight, now its position is at post six. While this was carried by other friends, he didn't have time to join the ceremony," he said.
