JAKARTA - The Manpower and Transmigration Service (Disnakertrans) in Cianjur, West Java, has made various efforts, including writing a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist the return of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) from Cianjur who were abused by their employers.

Head of Cianjur Manpower and Transmigration Office, Endan Hamdani, said that his party received a report from the family of a migrant worker from Cianjur on behalf of Neni Aptiani (41) a resident of Gang Edi, Sayang Village, Cianjur, who was doused with hot porridge by her employer in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

"The migrant worker was reported to have suffered burns all over his body, so he asked his family to send him home because the injuries suffered from the hot porridge were quite severe," he said in Cianjur as quoted by Antara, Monday, August 8.

Endan explained that to help the wishes of the families and migrant workers, his party sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) so that the victim could be repatriated as soon as possible, even though his departure did not go through an official or illegal procedure.

"There is no follow-up yet, but verbally the ministry has stated that it is ready to help until his return to Cianjur. We will continue to communicate so that the migrant workers from Cianjur can be repatriated immediately," he said.

The chairman of the Association of Indonesian Workers for Greater Renewal (Astakira) Cianjur, Ali Hildan, said that his party also received reports and requests for assistance from the family to repatriate victims who were splashed with hot porridge from the employer where he worked in Dubai.

"We have contacted the Indonesian Embassy in Dubai to track down Neni's current whereabouts because she is sick and forced to continue working. The victim left illegally five months ago and has changed employers three times," he said.

His party together with the relevant offices in the Cianjur Regency Government, will try to repatriate the victim as soon as possible because his health condition continues to decline, but he is still forced to work. This was known after receiving a video from the family in Cianjur.
