JAKARTA - Since it was declared an extraordinary event (KLB) in June 2022, cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Asmat Regency, Papua have infected about 120 local residents.

The Head of the Surveillance and Immunization Section of the Health Office (Dinkes) of Asmat Regency, Darsono, admitted that dengue cases in the area continued to increase. As of Friday, August 5, there were 120 people infected with the disease.

"Of the 120 people who were infected with dengue fever, 104 people were declared cured, 11 were outpatients, three were treated at the Agats Hospital, one was referred to Timika and one died," said Darsono when contacted from Jayapura, Antara, Saturday, August 8.

Currently, he continued, dengue is still attacking residents in three districts, namely Agats, Akat and Jetsy District. The DHF case had attacked four districts in Asmat Regency, namely Agats, Akat, and Jetsy Districts, but residents who live in Suru-suru District have been declared cured.

Darsono admitted that the dengue fever outbreak in Asmat Regency was still due to the difficulty of cleaning mosquito larvae in the community's water reservoirs due to the difficulty of getting clean water.

The community, he said, had difficulty with clean water, so to meet their daily needs they had to collect rainwater, so that each house had dozens of water reservoirs.

"From the results of research conducted by health workers, it was revealed that many water reservoirs, especially those that were not tightly closed, contained Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae, but residents refused to empty the tubs," said Darsono.
