In The Next 2 Days, BMKG Predicts 3 Meter Waves To Occur In Aceh's Malacca Straits

ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned fishermen and coastal communities to be wary of wave heights in the waters of the Malacca Strait, Aceh Province, with a height of up to three meters.

"Fishermen are asked to be aware of the potential for high waves that are estimated to reach three meters in the next two days in the waters of the Malacca Strait," said Wiwit Nitasari, BMKG forecaster for Malikussaleh Station in Lhokseumawe, Antara, Monday, August 1.

Wiwit Nitasari said the sea waves reached three meters in the waters of the Malacca Strait with a distance of 20 kilometers from the shoreline. Meanwhile, sea waves less than that distance reach 2.5 meters.

From satellite observations, said Wiwit Nitasari, the coastal waters of the Malacca Strait covering the area of Lhokseumawe City, North Aceh Regency, and its surroundings were observed to have deflected wind direction. The deflection of the wind direction can form cloud growth, so the potential for strong winds and high sea waves.

The formation of winds that have the potential for light to moderate rain in the dry season also has an impact on mountainous areas which can potentially lead to landslides and fallen trees.

"Fishermen and other shipping activities, both traditional boats and barges, must continue to monitor weather conditions. Don't force sailing if the weather doesn't allow it," said Wiwit Nitasari.

Regarding the weather forecast for the next two days along the eastern coast of Aceh Province, Wiwit Nitasari said there is the potential for light to moderate rain, especially in the afternoon.

The areas with the potential for rain include Bireuen Regency, North Aceh Regency, Lhokseumawe City, East Aceh Regency, Langsa City, and Aceh Tamiang Regency.

"Meanwhile, mountainous areas including Central Aceh Regency and Bener Meriah Regency have the potential for moderate to heavy rain," said Wiwit Nitasari.
