JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that the 2024 General Election must be properly guarded and prepared, the legal process and budget.

"Soon elections, we agree that we must guard the 2024 elections, the institutions, the legal process, the budget may be in the Ministry of Finance but we must guard it so that it is not wasteful but does not cause it to not run. Moreover, in a few months there will be an announcement of a verified political party in the election We all have to be ready to protect this country," Mahfud said in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 29.

Likewise, the new autonomous regions or Papua New Guinea, according to Mahfud, need good coordination, such as preparations for the formation of their government and mapping the electoral districts (dapil) and the election process in the new areas.

"This new autonomous region in Papua is also his own work. Because it is related to many things. One, with the formation of three provinces in the new autonomous regions, it means that in early 2023 the government must have formed. Because we will soon map out the electoral districts and the election process in new areas that are in the old law. nothing," said Mahfud anyway.

In launching the Political, Legal and Security Coordination Index (IKO-Polhukam), Mahfud also mentioned the importance of coordination regarding the National Capital City (IKN) of the Archipelago and DKI Jakarta in relation to political momentum in 2024.

"IKN will also have the election in East Kalimantan Province or specifically? For the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, where is the election now, now it's not the capital city in 2024, are the voters the same? This all requires good, steady coordination, synchronization and control , and measurable, for example through a coordination index like the one we launched today," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).

Mahfud said the Political, Legal and Security Coordination Index is an instrument that can be used as a tool to measure and map the strengths and tasks and functions of coordination, synchronization, and control of government affairs.

"IKO Polhukam will later have four functions, first to measure the performance, synergy, and effectiveness of the coordination function in the field of Polhukam," he said.
