Cases With Disabilities Prohibited From Riding Solo-Yogya KRL, Gibran Will Intervene: Friends With Disabilities Must Be Prioritized, Not Eliminated

JAKARTA - A person with a disability is refused to take the KRL to Yogyakarta at Solo Balapan Station, Central Java. Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka said he was disappointed.

Gibran said the city of Solo is currently preening to host the ASEAN Para Games XI 2022. The incident that happened to people with disabilities when they wanted to access public transportation in Solo should not have happened.

"It should be okay. It's okay to take the BST bus," said Gibran, quoted from the Surakarta News YouTube account, Wednesday, July 27.

Gibran also questioned the KAI Commuter regulations in operating the Solo-Yogyakarta KRL route, including its services to the public. Moreover, this incident took place before Solo, which became the home of the Southeast Asian disabled sporting party.

"We're the hosts, but it's like that. We'll communicate it [to the KAI Commuter]," said Gibran.

He mentioned that various efforts have been made by the Solo City Government to encourage all disability-friendly public services. The effort, he said, could not be done half-heartedly but had to be total.

"Like yesterday, we pick up our contingents of athletes every day. We provide new cars, buses, all of them to facilitate friends with disabilities. So we have to be total, from facilities, airport pick-up, transportation to hotels, at the airport. in the hotel, later transportation to the venue," said Gibran.

The son of President Joko Widodo reminded that the Solo he leads must be a city that is friendly to tourists as well as people with disabilities. In the future, Gibran admitted that he would make improvements in the mirror of the problems experienced by disabilities at the Solo Balapan Station.

"Friends with disabilities should be prioritized, not excluded like that," he added.

Previously, a video circulated showing the situation when a person with a disability was denied access to the Solo-Yogyakarta KRL route at Solo Balapan Station. The station refused because the disability support transportation was too long.
