JAKARTA - Citayam Fashion Week activities are increasingly in demand by the public. The "SCBD" (Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, Depok) youth style show event in the Dukuh Atas area, Central Jakarta often creates crowds.

One thing that is worrying about this condition is the transmission of COVID-19. Moreover, many of the visitors are crowding and not wearing masks.

An epidemiologist from Griffith University Australia, Dicky Budiman stated, the Citayam Fashion Week activity has the potential to increase COVID-19 cases. Given, currently cases in various countries are increasing.

"Although (Citayam Fashion Week) is being held in an open area, with the ability of the Omicron BA.5 variant whose effects are so contagious and when the fourth wave of cases has not yet reached its peak, this has the potential to increase cases of high-risk people, who are prone to being treated at home. sick," Dicky told VOI, Tuesday, July 26.

Dicky also asked the COVID-19 Task Force at the regional level, in this case the DKI Provincial Government to make efforts to minimize the transmission of the corona virus.

This effort is to ensure that all visitors, both "SCBD" teenagers and the general public have been vaccinated with the third dose (booster), and ensure the use of masks, especially at crowd points.

"When the crowd is held, make sure by the local government that the perpetrators of the crowd present there have been vaccinated with boosters and wear masks, apply health protocols. This is what must be done," said Dicky.

Although it is not certain to avoid the virus, Dicky continued, at least this minimizes the transmission of COVID-19 between visitors.

"It is certain that there will be infected and the majority generally have mild symptoms. But remember, these young people carry the virus to their vulnerable families such as their parents and grandparents. This is something to watch out for," he added.
