Disney's New Cruise Ship Begins First Cruise: Offer AquaMouse, Frozen, And Worlds Of Marvel

JAKARTA - Starting its maiden voyage last week from Port Canveral, Florida, United States to the Bahamas, Disney Wish is the fifth cruise ship in the cruise line company's fleet, as well as the first new Disney ship in a decade.

Having a giant size, this yacht has a gross weight of about 144.000 tons. Meanwhile, for its capacity, it can carry around 4.000 passengers and 1.555 crew members. In total, Disney Wish has 1.254 cabins, 90 percent of which are off-cabin.

The luxurious Royal Suites feature an open plan living, dining area and private hot tub on the veranda. Two of the four Royal Suites span across two levels with a spiral staircase.

At the heart of the ship, a bronze statue of Cinderella sets the stage for a fairy tale-themed atrium with stacked ornate balconies, to twinkling constellations and star-studded chandeliers. The grand hall features the Disney Cruise Line's first atrium stage.

There's a water ride called AquaMouse, an experience the company calls 'the first Disney attraction at sea.' The journey involves a 760 foot twisting tube that offers riders views of the ocean before ending in the 'lazy river'. Inspired by Mickey Mouse's animated shorts, this interactive ride combines music, special effects and performance scenes.

Disney Wish cruise passengers will also discover a variety of new dining options. Arendelle is a 'Frozen' themed offering with live entertainment and character experiences, reported by CNN, July 14.

Next up is Worlds of Marvel, another character exhibit that offers a menu with dishes referring to locations like Wakanda's Black Panther. Each table has its own interactive device that allows diners to participate in the "Quantum Encounter."

The Disney Wish is the first of three ships in the Triton-class cruise line to be powered by liquefied natural gas to reduce emissions.

Interestingly, the ship embarked on a voyage as BA.5, a highly contagious subvariant of Omicron, dominated new COVID-19 infections in the United States.

Disney Cruise Line participates in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) COVID-19 volunteer program for cruises. Disney Wish is listed as 'highly vaccinated,' defined as having 90 percent of travelers fully vaccinated.

The shipping industry has repeatedly demonstrated stringent Covid-19 mitigation measures on board that exceed the precautions taken in most other segments of the travel industry.

Disney Cruise Line currently requires all vaccine-eligible guests (for 5 years and over) to be fully vaccinated, as defined by the CDC. A pre-trip test is also required.

After its maiden voyage of five nights, Disney Wish is set for a season of three and four nights of cruises from Port Canaveral to Nassau, the Bahamas, and Castaway Cay, Disney's private island.
