Outrage Over The Obscene Case In Jombang, MUI Urges Parents Not To Hesitate To Send Their Children To Islamic Boarding Schools

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) asked the public not to hesitate to send their children to study in Islamic boarding schools. Following the impact of the molestation case carried out by Moch Subchi Azal Tsani (MSAT) alias Mas Bechi to female students at the Majma'al Bahrain Islamic Boarding School Shiddiqiyyah, Jombang, East Java.

Head of the MUI Fatwa Division, Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, said that Islamic Boarding School (pesantren) remained the best alternative for education for children. Because parenting in Islamic boarding schools is based on exemplary, with the spirit of togetherness, simplicity, and discipline with the habituation of good morals.

"I appeal to all parents not to hesitate to place their children in Islamic boarding schools as the best alternative for education and care for their children," said Ni'am in his statement, Monday, July 11.

Ni'am added that pesantren remains the best choice for character education. Because pesantren is an educational institution that integrates formal, informal, and non-formal education with an integrated exemplary approach and parenting.

The caretaker of the Al-Nahdlah Islamic Boarding School actually advised parents to be more selective in choosing Islamic boarding schools before placing their sons and daughters there. For example, said Ni'am, by knowing the curriculum and methods used for teaching.

"Before placing children, parents must understand and know the factual conditions of the pesantren, starting from who the caregivers are, the subjects being taught, and their daily activities," said Ni'am.

Ni'am also asked the owners of Islamic boarding schools to strengthen the governance and optimization of pesantren services. According to him, this can free the Islamic boarding school environment from sexual violence.

"Pesantren caretakers also need to strengthen the management of Islamic boarding schools to optimize solemnity and education and care services," he concluded.
